I decided to study Japanese for several reasons. The languages I have learned before were related to Germanic or latin languages, so I wanted to learn something completely different. The Kanji writing sounded challenging and fun. The fact that a lot of Japanese have poor English skills made me realize that I had to learn Japanese in order to enjoy experiences with Japanese people.

Why did you choose to study Abroad in Japan?

I was really interested in the culture, the ancient Japanese history, the architecture, the food, the awesome sushi… I realized I wanted to go somewhere far away (I come from Spain) and Japan sounded like the best option for it.

How was your short period of study abroad in Japan at Otaru University?

It was an awesome experience, the best of my life. I could also travel all around Japan and discover the wonders of the Empire of the Rising Sun. I met a lot of people that are already friends and I learnt a lot about Asian cultures.

You finished a short period of study abroad in Japan, after less than one month why do you go to South Korea?

I decided to go to South Korea because I am interested in Marketing and Business in Asia and I wanted to enhance my knowledge in this field. South Korea is growing pretty fast and has many business opportunities. Another reason was the opportunity to know a different culture (like the Korean culture is), and check the differences between the Korean and the Japanese society.

Korean people are closer to Europeans in their way of acting and speaking. Moreover, Japanese people are way more respectful and polite, and know how to treat foreigners. Japanese girls are less into cosmetics and beauty, and I like the naturalness about it.

Why did you come back to Otaru now?

I really wanted to see again some good friends I made last year. I also wanted to relax for a week from the busy and crowd Seoul, enjoy some non-spicy food and re-experience some good memories I had from this place.

Do you love Otaru?

Yes I do! Though Sapporo seems way better for a life, Otaru is closer to what I am used to, a quite small city with not a lot to offer, but with a really nice atmosphere and good people.
