授業の目的・方法
/Course Objectives and method
The aim of this course is to offer students an opportunity to develop fundamental English communication skills.  The lessons will include interactive learning activities in all four language skills, pronunciation and intonation activities, structured discussion, and problem-solving activities.

This course will be conducted in a Distance Learning Format.  Lessons will be conducted each week Live via Zoom meetings.  The distribution of materials and submission of tasks will also require extensive use of email and the Manaba online learning platform.

Students should be able comprehend and voice their opinions on the topics presented in the units. They will also be expected to write short report papers and complete quizzes based on the content presented in class.

事前学修・事後学修
/Preparation and review class
The topics we will cover will be real-life news events, stories and other current events thus, keeping up to date with current social trends and news will be beneficial.  In addition, a basic understanding of all four language skills (reading, writing, speaking, & listening) is advisable.  Lastly, this course may be conducted solely online and will include online learning platforms thus, it will be the student's responsibility to be technologically capable to take an online course, (i.e. you should be computer literate and Internet experienced).  This also means that your device and operating system that you use should be kept up to date with the latest recommended security updates and upgrades and be able to run the latest compatible web browsers.

/Grading
25% - attendance and participation in class  
10% - homework + quizzes
25% - roleplay
40% - midterm and final exams
成績評価の基準
/Grading Criteria
Students will be required to complete and submit each graded assignment.  For example, you cannot pass the course if you take only the exams but do not participate in the Role-Play Task and/or fail to complete the writing task(s).

/Remarks
-Attendance and participation in class/meetings is extremely important.  
❖Students who have 5 or more unexcused absences will be automatically failed despite scores.
