授業の目的・方法
/Course Objectives and method
This class is intended to provide opportunities for students to become active members of a learning environment conducted in English.  Students will be encouraged to foster their communication skills through group activities and discussion topics that are based on daily life and real-world situations that are presented in the textbook.  In conjunction with the DVD and educational materials provided by National Geographic, students will learn about various cultures, different ways of living, nature, and history.  Grammatical explanations will assist students to form their own opinions on these various important topics.  Practical textbook and separately prepared activities and materials will be utilized in order to assist the students so that they are able to appropriately describe, question, discuss, and think about the world in English.  This course will assist students in building their vocabulary and grammatical skills in academic English.

/Course Goals
Through grammatical and lexical instruction and study, students will increase their vocabulary base in English, and will be able to use fundamental English grammar to communicate about the world in general.  Critical thinking skills based on logical reasoning such as making inferences and deductions, making predictions, and analyzing and synthesizing information will be developed throughout this course in order for students to be able to partake in discussions and to be able to form opinions on a diverse set of important topics.

/Preparation and review class
Every week, the contents of next week’s lesson will be provided and explained.  In addition, the key points of preparation will also be explained.  This will assist students in understanding new words, grammar, and speaking and critical thinking skills.
