授業の目的・方法
/Course Objectives and method
The aim of this course is for students to be able to understand and discuss, to some extent, the issues in the reading passages of each unit.
Each unit consists of three sections, each with a variety of reading comprehension, vocabulary, discussion, and writing exercises
Most of the activities will be done in class. The writing section, as well as what cannot be covered in class, will be assigned as homework. .

Students should be able comprehend and voice their opinions on the topics presented in the units.
They will also be expected to write short report papers on the subjects studied in the book.

成績評価の方法
/Grading
40% - attendance and participation in class
  30% - homework
  30% - mid-term and final exams
成績評価の基準
/Grading Criteria
- There must be a balance between the percentages listed in “Grading”, that means, for example, a student CANNOT get 30% on the exams and do not hand in homework assignments. To get a passing grade, students must get at least 60% in each of the categories.

- Missing more than 5 classes results in automatic failure
- Absences will affect the final grade.
- Homework assignments will have to be posted on the class Moodle page.
