授業の目的・方法
／Course Objectives and method		 This seminar has two goals:

(1) To introduce students to the fields of Sociolinguistics and second language learning by exploring the following themes: (i) how the speaking situation affects the language we use (dialect, language style, politeness); (ii) how we learn second languages; and (iii) how the English language has developed over time.

(2) To improve research skills through collecting and analyzing language data (written and spoken). You will also investigate topics from different perspectives and be capable of explaining your opinions to others logically in Japanese and English.
達成目標
／Course Goals		 このゼミの目標は以下の二つです:

(1)社会言語学、応用言語学という分野の学習。ゼミ内では、通じて次のような社会言語学のテーマを取り上げます。(i)会話の状況により、話し方や語彙選択にどのような影響が与えられるか（方言, 言葉の形式、敬語、他）。(ii)生涯を通じて、あるいは第二言語としての言語学習はどのように行われるか、行われるべきか。(iii)英語という言語は、現在までどのように発展してきたのか。

(2) このゼミでは、具体的・実質的なデータに基づいての論理的思考ができるようになること、また、あらゆるデータをどのように分析するかの分析能力を養うことを目的としています。加えて、様々な事柄について多角的な視点や意見を持つこと、相手に伝わる論理的な説明に置き換えられることもできるようになります。
