Comfortable overseas student life
using the tutor system

 MYSLOWSKI, Monika

 ヾ YOUC Student, University of
Bayreuth, Germanyゝ

I came from the University of Bayreuth in Germany as an overseas exchange student and spent one year studying Japanese and economics. Life at university was fun and all the teachers were very considerate.There was a tutor system and I was looked after by a thirdyear female student, so I didn¨t experience any problems. The scenery in Otaru is beautiful, and we skied on the mountains in winter and went to the beach in summer. It is a really nice place. I love Japanese food and think it¨s the most delicious cuisine in the world. I especially like tempura and sushi, and the umeshu plum brandy is delicious, too. I often made Japanese-style and Western-style dishes myself, and can even make gyudon (rice topped with beef) and soba (buckwheat noodles), too. One of my dreams for the future is to open a restaurant in Germany that serves a mixture of Japanese- and European-style cuisine.

Solid support for students from overseas

 HA, Yoonjoon

ヾFirst Year Student, Faculty of Commerceゝ

 I entered Shodai (Otaru University of Commerce) from high school in Seoul after passing the overseas student entrance exam. On a previous visit to Japan as a tourist, I liked the orderly atmosphere and the characteristics of the Japanese people, and decided I wanted to study at a Japanese university. I had been studying Japanese since before I entered university, and attended the lessons along with the other Japanese students. There are words used in conversations that are not in the books and I sometimes have trouble understanding, but the Japanese the teachers speak in class is easy to understand. In the future I would like to qualify as a certified tax accountant in both Japan and Korea, and hope to progress into the Department of Commerce as a sophomore. I have a part-time job right now, and although it¨s tough to study and work at the same time, Shodai¨s solid support for overseas students is really helpful.
