| 授業の目的・方法 /Course Objectives and method |
Course Objective This course aims to improve your English reading and listening skills and improve your grammatical accuracy to raise your score on the TOEIC IP test. Method Revising the basic concepts of English grammar and vocabulary, using online lessons to prepare for the compulsory TOEIC IP Test at the end of the course. Your English reading and listening skills will be enhanced through practice drills and exercises. In the system, you will get feedback about your language mistakes and then you can try the exercise again. In the first class, you will do a diagnostic test to find out your English proficiency level. After this, you will be given a set of exercises to use during the course, which are targeted at your individual English level. To receive credit for this course, you must complete all the course materials and score 450 points or more on the final grade calculation (based on the end-of-course TOEIC IP Test). Your effort in the course (Midterm Test score and Gold Pass rate) will be added to your final grade as bonus points. |

| 授業内容 /Course contents |
Themes for each lesson will greatly vary from student to student. The questions will be produced by the adaptive-focus method of the Really English system. Some of the examples of possible themes are as follows: Weekly Schedule 1 Introduction & Diagnostic Test 2 Lessons 1~7 Did you know that? 3 Lessons 8~14 Food I live 4 Lessons 15~21 New colleagues 5 Lessons 22~28 Executive meetings 6 Lessons 29~36 A technological Christmas 7 Lessons 37~44 Trouble in the office 8 Mini TEST 1 9 Lessons 45~52 A difficult time 10 Lessons 53~60 The report recommends 11 Lessons 61~68 Asking for and giving updates 12 Lessons 69~76 Hotel reservations 13 Lessons 77~84 Natural disasters and consequences 14 Lessons 85~92 Living with an allergy 15 Lessons 93~100 Pollution and environmental problems TOEIC IP Test There are 100 lessons to practice your English reading and listening skills to prepare you for the TOEIC IP Test. You need to complete 7 or 8 lessons per week. You can access the system via PC, tablet or smartphone any time to finish the lessons by the deadline (before the next class). There is one Mini TOEIC Test (60 minutes – in week 8) which you are required to take. |

Really English e-learning software (http://www.reallyenglish.co.jp/ ). You will be given a login number in the first class. After you set up your account in the first week you need to pay for the course at a convenience store. • Cost ¥3,520. Please pay at a convenience store or by credit card within one week after registering. (Really Englishのシステムは有料です。登録後1週間以内に、コンビニエンスストアまたはクレジットカードで3,520円を支払う必要があります。) |

| 成績評価の方法 /Grading |
In order to receive credit for this course, you need to meet the following criteria: - Completion of all the course materials - Attendance • If you are absent 5 times or more, you will not receive credit for this course. (5回以上欠席したら、単位が取得できません。) • Absence = No Access(未アクセス) to the weekly lesson set by the weekly deadlines. • Incompleteness = Incompletion of the weekly lesson set by the weekly deadlines(未修了) - Your final grade in this course will be calculated based on your TOEIC IP Test score, plus Bonus Points (Midterm & Gold Pass), minus Deductions. (最終成績 = TOEICスコア + 中間テスト加点 + ゴールド合格加点 - 未修了・低平均点による減点) *Please check "Remarks" for detailed rules on Bonus Points and Deductions. (加点・減点の詳細なルールについては、必ず「備考(Remarks)」を確認してください) |

-【Important】This course is an on-demand course, however, students are required to attend the orientation in the first week on Zoom. - For students who do not have their own device, please use the available computer rooms on campus. Please note that a specific room has not been reserved for this course. (自身のデバイスを持っていない学生は、学内のPC教室を各自で利用してください。本授業のための専用教室の確保は行っていません。) - Detailed rules on Bonus Points and Deductions 【1. Deadlines & Deductions (減点について)】 You must complete the weekly lessons by the deadlines, or you will lose points on your final grade. • You must complete the diagnostic test in the first week. If you do not complete the test, 5 points will be deducted. • You must complete all the weekly lessons by the deadlines. If you do not complete the lessons, 10 points will be deducted. (Complete means 修了). • Even if you complete the lessons, if your "Average Test Score" for the week is below 70, it will be considered insufficient effort, and 5 points will be deducted. (修了していても、その週の「平均テストスコア」が70点未満の場合は取り組みが不十分とみなし、5点減点されます。適当に選択肢を選ぶのではなく、しっかり理解して解答してください。) 【2. Bonus Points (加点について)】 • Midterm Test (Week 8): You must take the TOEIC Half-test in week 8. Your TOEIC-equivalent score (out of 990) will be converted to a 100-point scale, and half of that score (Maximum 50 points) will be added to your final grade. If you do not take the half test, you will receive 0 bonus points, and an additional 10 points will be deducted for incompleteness. (第8週の中間テストを受験してください。100点満点に換算した得点の半分(最大50点)が最終成績に加算されます。未受験の場合は加算点が0点になるだけでなく、未修了としてさらに10点減点されます。) • Gold Pass Bonus: Your effort to answer independently is evaluated. Your "Gold Pass Rate" (passing without checking answers) at the end of the semester will be converted to bonus points (Maximum 50 points) and added to your final grade. *However, if your overall Average Test Score is below 60, you will receive 0 bonus points. (自力で合格した「ゴールド合格」の割合(%)に応じて、最大50点が最終成績に加算されます。※ただし適当な解答を防ぐため、学期全体の「平均テストスコア」が60点未満の場合は、加点は0点となります。) 詳しい受講の際の注意点については、Manabaのコースに9月頃にはアップロードする予定ですので、必ず確認するようにしてください。 *なお、Really Englishのシステム登録には、携帯キャリアのメールアドレスなどを使用した場合上手く機能しない場合があるため、一括で大学が作成した「gで始まるメールアドレス」を使用する予定ですので、各自で早めに設定を行ってください。メールの設定と使用について、詳しくは情報総合センター(cj@office.otaru-uc.ac.jp)までお問い合わせください。 |
