| 授業の目的・方法 /Course Objectives and method |
This is a communication course with a focus on critical thinking and intellectual discussion. The course is based on a collection of engaging topics. Each unit in the textbook introduces a separate topic. Each unit supports language acquisition, language learning and practice which will enable students to gain a deeper insight and understanding of the topics presented throughout the course and also enable students to have sufficient language skills to articulate points of view, have meaningful interactions in pairs or groups, and give engaging presentations thereby building confidence in oral skills. Each unit starts by highlighting a personal or social issue. Students are given a chance to think about their ideas and express opinions connected to the topic. Students then read or listen to a situational dialogue or monologue presented in the textbook. Students will acquire language connected with each topic by doing language learning exercises to help them articulate their points of view on the topic with newly acquired vocabulary and phrases. Students will explore the topic further by doing activities in pairs or in groups, such as surveys, in order to prepare for a presentation. Students watch a sample student presentation, take notes, answer content questions and communication style questions to learn tips for giving their own presentation. Students will then make their own presentations and listen to their partners’ presentations and also give feedback on how the presentation affected them. |
