| 授業の目的・方法 ／Course Objectives and method |
This course is designed to develop students' reading skills and their ability to comprehend, appreciate and evaluate a variety of English texts. Weekly classes will mostly consist of reading and analysing texts for content, structure, and meaning. There will be various comprehension exercises, strategies for developing reading skills, vocabulary-building activities, summaries of reading passages, and book reading reports, in addition to verbal checking of understanding from the instructor. | ||

| 事前学修・事後学修 ／Preparation and review class |
It is important to prepare for and, especially, review each lesson. Preparation and review will generally involve some reading and writing. On average, you should spend between one and two hours preparing for each class and between one and two hours reviewing material covered in class. In addition, there will be a considerable amount of reading not immediately related to the weekly lessons to be done in your own time. | ||

| 成績評価の基準 ／Grading Criteria |
Active and enthusiastic participation in weekly classes will positively influence grades. You should submit your book reading reports on time and take the required tests. The following is a guide to grades: 秀 (A) 100–90 Outstanding 優 (B) 89–80 Very good 良 (C) 79–70 Good 可 (D) 69–60 Satisfactory 不可 (F) 59–0 Below expectations (failure) |
