授業の目的・方法
/Course Objectives and method
This course aims to develop students' reading skills and their ability to comprehend and respond to a variety of texts. Numerous texts will be analysed for content and meaning, and they will also provide a springboard for vocabulary building. In addition, graded readers will be used to expand students’ English reading horizons and summarizing capabilities.

To enhance your understanding and appreciation of different types of texts in English; to develop your reading skills; to expand your English vocabulary and grammar; to increase your reading fluency; to heighten your critical thinking; to promote your English reading enjoyment.

/Preparation and
review lesson
Active preparation for and review of each lesson is strongly advised. Preparation and review will generally involve some reading and written preparation (according to specific instructions given by the teacher). On average, you should be spending approximately one to two hours a week preparing for each class and about one to two hours a week reviewing material covered in class. In addition, there will be a considerable amount of reading not immediately related to the weekly lessons to be done in your own time.

Evaluation will be based on participation (20%), book reports (40%), and tests (40%).
成績評価の基準
/Grading Criteria
Active and enthusiastic participation in weekly classes will positively influence grades. Book reports should be submitted on time, and you should sit for any required test.

秀 (A) 100–90 Outstanding
優 (B) 89–80 Very good
良 (C) 79–70 Good
可 (D) 69–60 Satisfactory
不可 (F) 59–0 Below expectations (failure)
