授業の目的・方法
/Course Objectives and method
This course will provide strategies and activities to improve reading comprehension in English.  The textbook and supplemental materials are based on real world topics such as happiness, creativity and inventions, environmental challenges, memory and learning, architecture, and business and technology.  In conjunction with these topics students will be presented with the critical thinking skills that are necessary for the clear comprehension of complex and significant issues in the world today.  Supplemental materials provided by National Geographic such as audio CDs, a CD-ROM Presentation Tool, and a DVD will provide additional content directly related to those significant textbook topics.  These supplementary materials will assist the students in conducting contextual analyses of various cultural, scientific, and technological aspects of the real world.

/Course Goals
The main goal of this course is the acquisition of a set of strategies and methodologies that increase reading comprehension in English.  In addition to grammatical and lexical activities presented by the textbook and supplemental materials, students will acquire critical thinking skills based on logical reasoning such as analyzing, making inferences, deduction, and synthesizing information in order to be able to clearly understand complex topics and issues that are presented in English.  Students will acquire a set of skills that will deepen their comprehension of reading and will assist them in understanding and analyzing the various components of different ways of living and of the world in general.
