| 授業の目的・方法 ／Course Objectives and method |
1. Explore representations of culture (e.g. Hollywood films- How Native Americans and African-Americans are represented in contrast to Anglo-Saxons) 2. Analyse the codes that are embedded in our reading, examining and comparing cultural differences (e.g. Our common perception of cultures - Is America such a secularised society as we would like to believe?; Is Japanese society as traditional as we are told?) 3. Review and critique cultural politics in the global era (e.g. A>Is the usage of English a communication tool, lingua-franca, or an apparatus to control and exploit Africa and Asian regions? ) (e.g. B> How can we explain a system where people from the advanced countries pay women in developing countries to be surrogate mothers?) 4. Reading the textbook - How globalisation has been unfolding alongside imperialism, colonialism and post-colonialism 5. Discuss issues arising from globalisation (e.g. On diaspora, immigration and identities) |
