授業の目的・方法
/Course Objectives and method
Prepare for writing a longer academic paper in English.
Students will read articles about Japanese culture and write summaries, review articles and, finally, an argumentative essay based on the literature covered.

授業内容
/Course contents
Students will read articles on Japanese culture as homework. The articles will serve as a basis for class discussions and for different types of writing. Some of the materials to be read are listed below. Depending on the level and interests of the students enrolled, the list can be modified.

Grading will reflect the degree of achievement of goals a-c as follows:
100-90: exceptional contribution to the class
89-80: strong performance
79-70: meets expectations
69-60: meets expectations with support
59-0: performs below expectations
