／Course Objectives and method
Increasing awareness of essay types and structure
Enhance ability to formulate statements of purpose, to use appropriately citation, text connectives, paragraphing, and punctuation.
Students will work collaboratively with their classmates and through Skype with students from the University of Transilvania Brasov.

2-5 Unit 1: From presentation to essay
In this unit students will make presentations about their college, view presentations made by colleagues from UTB and write a short essay based on the presentations.
6-10 Unit 2: Survey report
Students will make a survey about student life, collect answers and write an essay based on the data.
11-13 Unit 3: Using literature
We will read some materials on education, discuss them and write a review.
14-15 Unit 4: Writing a longer essay
Students will use the materials created in Units1-3 to write a longer essay.

Grading will reflect the degree of achievement of goals a-c as follows:
100-90: exceptional contribution to the class
89-80: strong performance
79-70: meets expectations
69-60: meets expectations with support
59-0: performs below expectations
(a) mastering the concepts and methods introduced during the course
(b) doing the required research and writing
