／Course Objectives and method
The course covers standard topics of microeconomics. We will study classic topics in perfect competition but this course is a sequel to Introductory Microeconomics. Thus, that is an absolute prerequisite. This course picks up at what Introductory Microeconomics stops at; therefore, it starts with producer theory and continues up to imperfect competition and so on as far as time allows.
Along with Introductory Microeconomics, this course aims to provide students with basic tools of microeconomics analysis essential to all fields of economics and finance.
Students are expected to enjoy arguments with mathematics although the required level is not so high. Basic calculus and algebra suffice. We plan to review them when needed. I will tailor the course according to the students' technical preparedness and make the course self-contained. That said, I suppose the students to be either those who have prior knowledge of microeconomics or who are fairly good at the mathematics above mentioned.
The only caution to give is: you should not take this course if you will shy away from equations!
We cover from Ch 18 onwards except game-related chapters as long as we can go. Please refer to the table of content of the textbook for detail.
We plan to use Hal Varian's ``Intermediate Microeconomics: a Modern Approach'' Norton, 2003 as a textbook.
Evaluation will be made principally on the exam at the end of the term and class time attitude.
No attitude lacking sufficient respect in a class room is tolerated. Students who behave in such a way are immediately excluded.
