ルーマニアのトランシルバニアブラショフ大学と、小樽商科大学で開催された第一回エッセイコンテストの課題は以下の内容でした。
Consider the two views on tradition expressed below. Which point of view would you agree with?
Write an original essay in English giving and justifying your point of view.
多数の力作の中から、2名の優秀者がそれぞれの大学から選ばれました。
小樽商科大学からトランシルバニア大学へ短期留学を果たした学生からコメントが届いています。
ルーマニアでの滞在中、現地の学生に誘われたことがきっかけで｢クリエイティブライティング｣という授業を見学しました。小さな教室に20人弱の学生。商大のアクティブラーニングのような形式で行われている授業でしたが、実際の授業風景は商大のものとは全く異なっていました。
彼らの母国語はルーマニア語。英語ではありません。しかし、授業中は先生も含めて皆が英語しか話していませんでした。商大の英語の授業では、恥ずかしがって日本人学生同士が英語でやり取りをすることなんてほとんどなかったので、驚くと同時にレベルの高さに感銘を受けました。
また、少人数クラスであることを活かして、先生が学生一人一人に回答を促すことで双方向的な授業作りを実践している点でも、商大のアクティブラーニングより一歩先を行った授業を展開している印象を受けました。

私がブラショフで過ごした日々は”アメージング”としかいいようがありません。今まで経験したことのない体験をしました。町の中を歩き回り、美しいヨーロッパの建物、自然を見て回り、たくさんのルーマニアの食事を楽しみ、TUBの授業に参加しました。そこで経験したこと全てが私にとって新しく、このような異文化を体験できて本当にラッキーだったと思います。次回のエッセコンテストにはもっと多くの応募者がいたらいいなと思います。なぜなら優勝者にはこんなにもすてきなご褒美があるのですから。

トランシルバニア大学からはErikaさんが小樽商科大学を訪ねました。（2名の優勝者を選出したのですが、そのうちの一人はご本人の体調が優れず今回は日本に来ることが叶いませんでした。）小樽商科大学のデジタルタスク室にあるレコーディングスタジオで、録画体験をしたり、おたる水族館に商大の「水族館プロジェクト」メンバーの学生と一緒にでかけ、特別にイルカに触れさせてもらったり。小樽を楽しんで貰えたでしょうか。

The topic of the essay for the Essay Contest with Transylvania University, Brasov (TUB) and the Otaru University of Commerce (OUC) is below.
Consider the two views on tradition expressed below. Which point of view would you agree with?

Two students with excellent essays were chosen from either university.
"While I was at TUB, I was invited by a TUB student to visit the 'Creative Writing' class. This was in a classroom with about 20 students. Although the class was in a room similar to the Active Learning rooms at OUC, the reality was that the class atmosphere was completely different.
Their language was Romanian. It was not English. However, everyone including the teacher didn't speak anything but English. For such classes at OUC, I am embarrassed to say, such back-and-forth in English between the students is almost non-existent, so I was very impressed by the high level of the students as well as surprised.
Also, utilizing a class with a small number of students, the teacher was able to interact with the students one-by-one in responses, so I had the impression that this class was one step above the classes at OUC Active Learning classes."

"The days I spent in Brasov can be expressed in one word, “amazing”. I experienced many things I had never done before. I walked around the city which had plenty of beautiful European architectures and nature, tried a lot of Romanian meals and took a class in Romanian university. Everything was very new to me there, and I think I am very lucky to visit there and know different culture from ours. I hope there would be many participants in next essay contest, because I know how winners can enjoy its prize."

Erika from TUB visited OUC. (Unfortunately, one student could not come to Otaru for health reasons.) While here, she was able to make some recordings in the studio in the Digital Task Reasearch Room at OUC and was accompanied by OUC students on a visit to the Otaru Aquarium with students involved in a project there—and was even able to hug a dolphin! We hope she enjoyed Otaru.
